New, unused, still in the box Sailrite Series Drouge Kit for boats up to 25,000 lb displacement. The price for this kit if you purchased it from the Sailrite website would be well over $1,500 Cdn with exchange, taxes and shipping. An essential piece of safety equipment for serious sailors.
This is the description from the Sailrite website:
Sew it yourself! This 124 Cone Series Drogue Kit has everything you need to sew and assemble your own Series Drogue Sea Anchor. The kit includes computer plotted and precut cones, as well as the line and thimble. Cones are easy to assemble and full written instruction are included. This kit is suitable for a monohull boat with a displacement of 25,000 pounds.
The Series Drogue was conceived by Don Jordan in collaboration with U.S. Coast Guard Researchers after tests showed conventional sea anchors were subject to fatigue. The single large fabric parachute would fill with water and often collapse under the strain generated by the storm waves.
Deployment and retrieval from the water is easy and in most cases can be done hand-over-hand. A winch can be used for retrieval in extremely difficult storm conditions (drogues can compress around a winch without damage).
The U.S. Coast Guard Development Team hopes that boaters will add this easily made and stored device to their boat's inventory of safety equipment.
