Position: Health Care Aide Nursing Attendant Job Code: HCA/NA Department: Nursing Wages: $28.74 per hour Reports To: Site Manager, Care Manager, LPN, or RN THE GOOD SAMARITAN SOCIETY/ GOOD SAMARITAN CANADA POSITION DESCRIPTION: IN SCOPE The Good Samaritan Society/Good Samaritan Canada (GSS/GSC) is committed to achieving and maintaining excellence in health, safety, wellness and the environment in all of its operations. We must continually identify, assess, report and control possible risks to the health and safety of ourselves, our co-workers, volunteers, contractors, our clients/residents and the public within the communities which we operate. Reporting to the Site Manager or Care Manager, and the supervising LPN, or RN as designated, Health Care Aides/Nursing Attendants provide service to residents including personal care, activities of daily living, meal service, portering, recreational activities and leisure activities while ensuring a positive and safe, daily living experience for each resident. Health Care Aides/Nursing Attendants ensure resident care is being delivered in a way that acknowledges resident choice, dignity, privacy, independence, spirituality and individuality inclusive of a home-like environment. Educational and other Qualifications * Health Care Aide Certificate or equivalent * Grade 12 or GED * First Aide * ALBERTA EMPLOYEES: Registration with the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory * ALBERTA EMPLOYEES: Food Safety Basic or equivalent * BC EMPLOYEES: Food Safe 1 (post July 29, 2013) or equivalent * BC EMPLOYEES: Registration with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker RegistryKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to deal effectively with conflict in a diplomatic and professional manner * Proficient using a computer including email and internet * Recognizes and responds effectively to verbal and non-verbal cues * Able to communicate information in English both verbally and in writing so others can easily interpret and understand it fully * Exhibits an open and sincere approach by demonstrating respect and compassion for everyone equally * Maintains an individual's dignity and self-worth during conversations * Excellent active listening skills * Demonstrates flexibility by changing routine to accommodate client/resident needsWork Experience * Experience working with the elderly and disabled * Palliative Care experience * Dementia care experience * Reports changes in resident conditions as well as any pertinent information to RN/LPN in a timely manner * Demonstrates flexibility by being willing to change routine to accommodate resident needs * Ensures resident care is delivered in a way that acknowledges resident choice, dignity, privacy, independence, spirituality, and individuality inclusive of a home-like environment * Provides quality service according to care plan and the GSS/GSC Standards of Care including participating in the development and updating of care guides/plans * Monitors and delivers medications according to GSS/GSC medication processes and procedures when applicable * Provides service to residents including personal care, activities of daily living, meal service, portering, recreational activities, and leisure activities where applicable * Actively participates in team meetings and sharing of ideas * Identifies and reports problems, risk issues and participates in finding solutions through constructive problem solving * Promotes teamwork by helping others as a peer coach through the sharing of knowledge and experience to enhance resident care * Openly requests assistance when needed * Follows emergency procedures according to GSS/GSC policies and procedures * Demonstrates dependability by reporting to work on time and as scheduled * Maintains a high standard of cleanliness, keeping the working environment consistently tidy * Adheres to all infection control practices and procedures * Ensures an environment and resources which nurture spirituality * Other related duties as assignedWork within GSS/GSC Standards of Safety and Care * Ensures that resources are being used effectively and efficiently and not wasted or misappropriated * Maintains confidentiality on issues related to resident/client and employee matters and GSS/GSC information * Pursues continual learning by participating in in-services and training/education programs * Supports the Mission, Vision, and Values of GSS/GSC * Maintains a safe working culture by assessing and controlling possible health and safety risks * Adheres to all GSS/GSC policies and proceduresOur Mission To extend Christian Hospitality through a continuum of care to those in need or at risk, regardless of race or religious belief.
